In a significant move to ensure stability for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), ESPN has agreed to extend its broadcasting rights for ACC sports through 2036, sources told ESPN on Thursday. This decision solidifies the partnership and continues ESPN's commitment to showcasing ACC athletics.
The television deal's extension comes at a crucial time as the ACC works toward resolving ongoing legal disputes with Clemson and Florida State. The schools had filed lawsuits against the conference, but the new broadcasting agreement could pave the way for a settlement. ESPN had a deadline of February 1 to exercise its option on a 20-year contract initially signed in 2016, which played a pivotal role in launching the ACC Network. Had ESPN chosen not to extend the deal, the partnership would have concluded after the 2027 season.
