The Miami Heat have announced the indefinite suspension of forward Jimmy Butler without pay after he walked out of practice on Monday. This marks the third suspension for Butler in recent weeks, with the latest one set to last at least five games, extending through the NBA's trade deadline on February 6.
Butler's suspension comes after he was informed that Haywood Highsmith would be starting in his place, prompting him to leave the morning shootaround. The Heat cited a "continued pattern of disregard for team rules, conduct detrimental to the team, and intentionally withholding services" as reasons for the suspension. The veteran star has been publicly seeking a trade from Miami and now faces losing $532,737 per game during this suspension. The Heat are actively working to find a deal for Butler, but the situation remains unresolved as the trade deadline approaches.
