The Seattle Mariners have announced their roster of 31 non-roster invitees for major league spring training, comprising mainly in-house prospects and previously reported veteran signees. Among them is a familiar name: Neftali Feliz, the former American League Rookie of the Year.
Feliz, who will turn 37 in May, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, when he appeared for the Phillies and the Dodgers. Before that, his last MLB action was in 2017. Over the past few years, Feliz has played for three different clubs in the Mexican League from 2022 to 2024. Despite the hitter-friendly environment, he posted an impressive 2.37 ERA with a 26.3% strikeout rate and a 9.8% walk rate across 121 2/3 innings, tallying 54 saves. This offseason, Feliz has been pitching for las Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Winter League, where he has logged 21 1/3 innings with a 2.11 ERA. However, his strikeout rate has dropped to 18.4%, and his walk rate has increased to 12.6%.
