The New York Mets have reportedly engaged in discussions with the San Diego Padres regarding starting pitchers Dylan Cease and Michael King, according to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated. Both pitchers are drawing significant interest, with the Atlanta Braves also expressing keen interest in acquiring either of them.
Cease and King have both been standout performers, making them attractive trade targets. Cease posted a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts over 189.1 innings in 2024, while King delivered a 2.95 ERA and 201 strikeouts over 173.2 innings. Their potential addition could provide a major boost to either team's rotation. The Padres are reportedly seeking a substantial return for either pitcher, given their impending free agency in 2026. As the trade talks progress, it will be interesting to see if the Mets or Braves can meet the Padres' demands.
