1/30/2025 Mountain West Commissioner Reaffirms Conference's Commitment Amid Member DeparturesRead NowMountain West Commissioner Gloria Nevarez issued a statement on Wednesday, emphasizing the conference's dedication to maintaining stability as five member schools prepare to depart for a restructured Pac-12 next year.
"There's been a lot of speculation from various media outlets about the future of the Mountain West and other collegiate athletic conferences," Nevarez stated. "While I cannot and will not comment on other leagues, I can share some facts about the Mountain West." Nevarez highlighted that Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico, San Jose State, UNLV, Wyoming, and Hawaii have all signed a grant of rights agreement. This agreement binds the schools together through the conference via television rights from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2032. Additionally, these seven schools are "successfully executing a future membership strategy" that will ensure the stability of the Mountain West through June 30, 2026, and beyond, Nevarez added. The conference is also pursuing a new media rights agreement set to begin on July 1, 2026.
