The Cincinnati Reds have signed right-handed pitcher Albert Abreu to a minor league contract, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. Abreu, represented by Vayner Sports, will join the major league camp as a non-roster invitee this spring.
Abreu, 29, has experience in parts of four big league seasons, primarily with the Yankees. In 2024, he pitched for the Seibu Lions in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, where he logged 49 innings out of the bullpen and achieved a strong 2.39 ERA. However, his rate stats were less impressive, as he struck out only 16.3% of hitters faced and issued walks at a 9.9% rate. This offseason, Abreu continued to showcase his skills with los Tigres de Licey in the Dominican Winter League, recording 22 2/3 innings with a 3.18 ERA, a 15% strikeout rate, and a 9% walk rate.
